Ticket Pricing Structure
Pre-sales of tickets fund our events! When you pre-buy you help ensure that the event is fabulously staffed, supported, and envisioned. Early buyers will get access to lower prices as a thank you.
Scholarship tickets are available → click the online purchase link and select the scholarship option that works best for you. This will initiate the online scholarship application.
Funds that finance the Scholarship tickets are limited, so apply early and pay what you can. Lowest tiers are designed for the people most in need.
Refund Policy
Refunds will be granted up to a week prior to the event, minus a $50 administrative fee, unless the event states otherwise.
Email Justin Riley with request and reason for refund. Include the full name and email of the ticket purchaser
Event food tickets are refundable up to the Thursday of the week prior to the event. No food ticket refunds after food is purchased.
Ticket Transfers
Anyone can transfer their ticket to someone else. Don’t tell us!
When you arrive at the event, confirm a ticket transfer to the new name by showing an email from the registered purchaser to the on-site registration staff.
Volunteerism
We ask that all attendees work at least one volunteer shift during most events, some events require more from attendees. If you are on a Scholarship ticket, we may ask for a second volunteer shift as needed.
Shifts may include set up, break down, kitchen, event registration, sound, building enchanted ambience for dances, being a clown playing the violin. All the necessary parts of a dance village.
Re-envision Our Labor
We hope to create a space where our labor attempts to reconnect to our joy, as we cook food out of love for our community, create art as gifts to shared spaces, and take care of ourselves and each other — we’re not working for our bosses or out of obligation.
We ask that you participate with engaged responsibility in this cultural work.
Community Guidelines
Recess Unbound events are by design aspirational and challenging
We have a high expectation for everyone to be responsible for themselves and the people they care about in the space. If you need support, turn to your friends and the people around you.
The event will have a loose structure to help you access support networks and resources.
If you think you might have higher needs at this event, we suggest you find an event buddy or anchor person to attend and provide physical, social and emotional support during the event.
We encourage you to choose an anchor person for yourselves in every community space – it’s always a good idea!
Every event will have an accessibility statement in the website description that will detail the physical limitations of the space. If you have specific questions, reach out to Justin Riley.
We acknowledge that our events are not accessible to all bodies.
Recess Unbound Is Our Art
By coming to a Recess Unbound event you are opting-in to a unique, participatory, artistic experience. If our artistic creation at certain times is not for you, we encourage you to step out or seek support in making changes that you need for yourself.
More Information
Each Recess Unbound event has a page on the website and an event description document that specifically describes the event, what you need to bring, and how to prepare. A First-timers guide and FAQ is also linked in each document
About Recess Unbound
Recess Unbound is both a return from and a movement toward. A product of the Recess past and a new Unbound future. Old Home for original Fusion dancers and an inspiring jump-in for fresh newbies. Still a rag-tag show, and hopefully a bit more mature on our better (or worse) days.
Justin Riley is the founder and sole proprietor of Recess Unbound. Staff are hired contractors or volunteers, and support individual events.
What to Bring
- Essentials. Sunscreen, bug spray, and clothes to be in the sun during the day and to stay warm dancing outside on chilly evenings.
- Snacks. If you buy meal shares we will feed you one to three meals a day, plus some snacks, (with vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and meat options). Each event will specify how many meals to expect with a purchased meal plan. If you have other allergies or dietary restrictions you will be able to tell us about them during online registration. Also, bring some of your own food regardless of whether you buy meal shares. You’ll be happier and more in control of your hunger needs.
- Bring your our own cup or mug. The event kitchen will supply a bowl and cutlery for meals.
- Multiple Types of Shoes to dance in: We'll be dancing on all types of surfaces, from hardwood floors, to concrete, to packed dirt and grass, to and our mobile martial-arts foam floor. Know that the only shoes allowed on our USA-event mobile foam dance floor are flat-bottomed canvas soled shoes, otherwise socks and bare feet. Think Toms and equivalent.
More General Info
- Accessibility Statements: Every event has on its specific event page an accessibility statement. It describes what services are available at each event. If you need more information than is provided on the event-specific website, you can email Justin directly at [email protected]
- Registration Confirmation: If you paid and got a confirmation Email, it means you are on automatically on our door guest list! No need to do anything more. Please take note of if you paid for a Meal Ticket or additional tickets as our confirmation email does not specify your different ticket purchases.
- How to Get To The Event: Recess Unbound tends to not be on the way to anything. Every event has a rideshare board and FB event page associated with it. In the week-or-so leading up to the event, the entire community coming to the event will be posting in these two spaces looking for rides and riders. Don't be shy, offer a shared airport car rental, join in the posting and requesting!
- First Timers Produce Fridays: At larger events we will often have First-Timers produce Fridays. This includes everything from helping cook the meals to producing the night's special magic. This production always gets announced and started at Friday Brunch, moves into a first-timers meet-and-greet mixer, then into crewing out to work-with and build relationships with other first-timers. Typically one-third of our events are first-timers! So know you are not alone!
- Photography: Photography is welcome and encouraged. However, photography is not allowed in any spaces where there are nude bodies or of people whom indicate that they would like to not be photographed. We ask that all photographers ask before taking someones picture, and if requested, agree to take down any posted photo after-the-fact, without question.
- Safe Questions Box: Some events have a box for anonymous questions, comments, etc. Every question put in the box will be announced publicly to the event. If you have a question, many people probably have the same. If you do not want it to be announced, and you just want to inform us of something, please note this in your comment.
- Animals at Recess Unbound: All events and venues welcome service dogs as required by ADA Requirements. Otherwise, each of our venues have their own requirements on animal attendance that will be noted in the event description.
- Sleeping in Your Car/Caravan: of course you can, unless otherwise noted in the event description.
Skillshares!
Skillshares are a celebrated part of Recess Unbound. Almost every day there will be time and space for you to lead a session or learn cool things from your friends. Dance class, plant walk, philosophical discussion, massage circle, board game, sing along, you name it. Skill Shares will be announced at meal times and then posted on the Event Community Board in the central community space on site.
Hired Dance Classes: Recess Unbound often do not promote their hired instructors; however, many of our events will hire world-class dance instructors to come and teach. These hired dance classes will be announced at the same time as Skill-Shares.
Vegan and gluten-free options will be available at every meal.
If you have other obscure allergies or dietary restrictions (email Justin Riley to give us a heads up in advance), it's probably a good idea to bring some of your own food regardless of whether you buy meal shares.
Daily Meal Times: (Did we say heavy on the "ish"?) Late morning brunch (10:30am, ish) , evening dinner (7:00pm ish), midnight late night snack (1:00am ish). Events in Spain will be 90 minutes behind the above schedule, because Spain. Meal times during winter months may be moved up an hour.
