A 60-PERSON, 7-DAY FUSION HOUSEBOAT PARTY
FB 2025 event page
Vision
We will have two 50' houseboats to explore Lake Powell during the day: Hiking, swimming, canyoneering, climbing, toying around in motor boats, dancing. The evenings will have dance events in remote slot canyons, slick rock benches, and all of the most beautiful fusion dance party locations imaginable. We will also have late-night fusion dance parties on the boat.
Thankfully, this lake will most likely be decommissioned in the coming years. This is a chance to enjoy these remote canyons by water before they return to their natural state.

Details
- Schedule: We will meet on May 17th at 11am at Bullfrog Marina: Maps Here . We will return to the marina on May 23rd at 3pm. Don't be late!
- Cost: The event cost is $875. This includes 7 days of food, 7 days of boat use, and sleeping on the deck after the party is over or camping on land (as we will be docking on beaches every night). Each car will be required to show a valid National Parks Pass when entering the marina, or a single-visit National Recreation pass can be purchased when entering. One per car.
- How To Pay: send Justin a personal message and Paypal ([email protected]) or Venmo (@Justin-Riley, 785-840-5301 phone) Justin $875 for an event ticket, and an additional $1000 if you want a room. Or pay via credit card with a 3% credit card fee here at Stripe. That is $898 for an event ticket. There is very limited space in this event.
- Rooms: There are 7 rooms with beds, each sleeping 2 people (a queen or double bed). Each room costs an extra $1000/room for the 7 days (not per person). Pay for a room, and share it with whomever you like. The rooms are pretty much just beds and have minimal floor space. Room sales will subside the trip for other participants without rooms. Rooms will be selected on a first-paid, first- select basis. If you know which room you would like feel free to PM Justin in advance to see if it is available or what rooms are still left.
- Sleeping without a purchased room: The top deck of each boat will be available for sleeping every night. We will also be anchored at shore every night with the option to camp on shore.
Food and beverages
All food will be provided for all registrants. All meals will be gluten free and have vegan options. Justin will reach out a couple weeks before the event to ask if you have any other dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate. We suggest that the more food restrictions you have, the more "backup" personal food your bring. Cuz, why not be the one taking responsibility?
In The Know
- The sun will be hot and the water cold. You should plan to have ZERO cell service, but the boats will have Starlink Internet available for use that is strong enough to take video calls.
- WHAT ELSE TO PACK: sun screen, sun shirt and secure hat (think for a motor boat), a sun umbrella is also great to have! water shoes or sandals. camping gear if you don't have a room. Drinks, alcohol, and other fun libations. Snacks and fun things to share with your new and old friends. Earplugs! The beaches and event is quite compressed, and there will be parties every night. Take control of your own sleep and bring what you need to sleep well with music nearby. We guarantee, you will run out of all of your favorite things, so pack wayyy more than you think you could ever want. If you like to climb, technical canyoneer, kayak, stand up paddle, board, hike, etc, bring all the gear! We will all be playing all week! Lots of room on the boats. Glamp-pack for this trip. Bring it all!
- If you’ve never been on a desert adventure this is a great first-timer trip. Please post on the FB event page ask here with questions and concerns.
- Dogs: well behaved dogs that are good being off-leash with people, children, and other dogs are welcome on this trip. Owners are fully responsible for the behavior of their dogs, plus a $50/day (shared by all dog owners) pet fee charged by the boat rental company. Please email Justin if you plan to bring your furry four legged friend!
Transport To & From
Shared rental cars from Salt Lake City, UT, or Las Vegas, NV, for those flying in. Also post on the FB event page to coordinate ride-share opportunities. And yes, it is hard to get to, be the one to take initiative.
Community Guideline
Recess Unbound events are by design aspirational and challenging
We have a high expectation for everyone to be responsible for themselves and the people they care about in the space. If you need support, turn to your friends and the people around you.
The event will have a loose structure to help you access support networks and resources.
If you think you might have higher needs at this event, we suggest you find an event buddy or anchor person to attend and provide physical, social and emotional support during the event.
We encourage you to choose an anchor person for yourselves in every community space – it’s always a good idea!
Every event will have an accessibility statement in the website description that will detail the physical limitations of the space. If you have specific questions, reach out to Justin Riley.
We acknowledge that our events are not accessible to all bodies and abilities.

Accessibility Statement
This trip has a medium requirement for self responsibility, self care, and physical ability. If you are camping, basic familiarity with camping skills are necessary such as setting-up and striking your personal tent most nights. Rooms are available otherwise. Requirements include the ability to carry your personal gear up and down sandy banks every morning and evening, or ask to be able to ask or plan for others to support you in the hauling of your gear. Some event sponsored event spaces will require hiking. The rest of the dances will be on the top deck of the boats and require a flight of stairs. There is zero cell service, however we will have reliable internet through StarLink for the duration of the trip strong enough to make video calls. Electricity, running water, flush toilets, and a full kitchen are available. This event requires the ability to roll well with the unexpected and unplanned, even when tired and grumpy. As well as the ability to take self responsibility for one's well being and actions.
